A former Buddhist monk who raped and impregnated a 15-year-old girl more than ten years ago has been arrested for the crime

Camnong Boa-Ubol, 62, is accused of repeatedly raping the girl over a period of two years when he worked at a Chicago temple. The 62-year-old was charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault and was ordered to be held on $5 million bail at Cook County Circuit court. The attack took place at the Wat Dhammaram temple in unincorporated Stickney Township. The court heard that the victim was just 13-years-old when Boa-Ubol approached her in a nearby car park and said that he would pay her if she cleaned around the outside of the temple. It was when she started working inside the temple that the monk started kissing her, which eventually led to her first rape in 1997. He paid her money to keep quiet about it and threatened to kill her father if she spoke of the assault or did not return to the temple. The assaults and threats continued for two years until the victim became pregnant. She gave birth in 2000. Assistant State's Attorney Donna Norton told the court that it wasn't until 2009 that she spoke out about the attacks. A DNA test taken in March 2010 showed that there was a 99.999% probability that Boa-Ubol was the father.
