Mitt Romney would beat Obama among registered voters, and Rick Perry would tie Obama if the election were held today, according to a new Gallup Poll

Obama only leads Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann among registered voters, by 2% and 4%, respectively. The numbers reflect a worrying slide for Obama heading into the 2012 campaign season, and the poll gives each of those four Republican candidates the ability to sell their electability to primary voters. Just as worrying for Obama is that all the Republicans except Bachmann lead Obama among registered voters who consider themselves independents. Romney leads among independents 47% to 44%, Perry leads 46% to 44% and Paul leads 46% to 43%. Only Bachmann trails Obama, 48% to 42%.
