As immigration becomes more intense into an area, the greater is the level of youth unemployment. Youth unemployment in Britain is an important and growing social and economic problem. Unemployment of 18 – 24 year olds is currently running at more than twice the overall unemployment rate (17.5 % compared with 7.8%), with 724,000 unemployed. A quarter of young people without a job have been unemployed for more than 12 months. The employment rate for young people is also strikingly lower (at 59%) than the overall rate of employment.
