Leader in Montreal Jewish community pleads guilty to child porn charges

The former Quebec director of B'nai Brith has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges. Bill Surkis pleaded guilty to one count of accessing and one count of possessing child pornography when he appeared in a Montreal courtroom. The former director of the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Center turned himself in to police in 2009 after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Defense lawyer Steven Slimovitch said at the time that police phoned Surkis after he brought his computer to a store to have it scanned for viruses. A shop employee allegedly discovered 23 videos on the hard drive and alerted police.
